Description
GeneralThe Deco V2 succeeds the popular original tape-effect stompbox by Strymon, featuring an upgraded design that includes a genuine JFET input and an advanced ARM processor that’s better at multi-tasking and draws less power. It all started in the early fifties and sixties when, by accident, a new type of effect was discovered: the flaws and irregularities found in tape recordings. These imperfections created echo, flanger and chorus-style ffects that widened the sound and added a satisfying dose of saturation to any input signal. The beautiful reel-to-reel tape sounds of the original Strymon are definitely on offer here, plus a fistful of serious upgrades and enhancements.
Classic Sound, Fresh Potential
The first thing that stands out is that the second iteration of the Tape Saturation / Doubletracker comes with a new voicing option in the form a high-end cassette deck simulation with auto level control (ALC), resulting in a beefier sound as a result of tight compression. In addition, this modernised stompbox offers full MIDI support so that every parameter can be tweaked via your DAW or with a MIDI controller, while the most significant improvement is probably the JFET input. This port guarantees enhanced dynamics and immediately improves the response of your guitar. Last but not least, Strymon have lowered an ARM-style DSP chip into the Deco V2, putting the focus on the maximum sonic detail and a lower power draw.
